Can a Kustom checkout be completed inside an AI agent?

Yes. We proved it two ways with real WooCommerce orders: the store's own shopping assistant took the Kustom payment in chat (order #72), and the customer's own ChatGPT/Claude agent bought via the store's MCP endpoint and paid with Kustom (order #71). In both, a human approved the payment with strong authentication (PSD2/SCA).

How does an AI agent pay with Kustom?

The agent never pays itself. It assembles the cart and creates a Kustom hosted payment session, then returns the payment link. The human opens Kustom's own payment page and approves it with strong authentication (PSD2/SCA). The WooCommerce order is placed only once payment completes.

Is agentic Kustom checkout legal in the EU?

Yes, because we don't bypass anything. Every payment requires the human's strong authentication (PSD2/SCA) — the agent makes no autonomous purchases. This is exactly the model EU regulation requires, and it sets us apart from the US-built autonomous checkouts.

Does this work on WooCommerce?

Yes — we piloted it on WooCommerce. WooCommerce's native MCP (10.9) is store-management only, with no consumer checkout, so we built that layer ourselves: the agent discovers the store from /.well-known/mcp.json, transacts through MCP tools, and completes the purchase with Kustom.

Kustom is the former Klarna Checkout — does the same apply to other payment methods?

Yes. The model is payment-agnostic: the same build works with Kustom, Klarna, Stripe, Paytrail, Visma Pay and others through the store's own PSP. The merchant keeps the checkout they already trust; we bring it within reach of an AI agent.

Why does this matter for Kustom?

It brings Kustom transaction volume from a new channel — agent-driven purchases — without Kustom having to build its own agent strategy. When the merchant's checkout is Kustom, Kustom becomes the layer an AI agent actually completes the purchase through.

How does a customer's own ChatGPT or Claude buy from the store with Kustom?

The store is added as a connector in the customer's own AI, or the agent discovers it from the store's published data. The agent searches products, assembles the order and hands over a Kustom payment link — the customer approves it themselves. It all happens inside the customer's own AI, not on the store's website.

Are these real purchases or demos?

They are genuine end-to-end purchases: real WooCommerce orders and the real Kustom payment flow, run in Kustom's Playground environment (test payments). The mechanics are entirely real; the money is test money. This is our own demonstration, not sponsored by Kustom.

What is needed to make my Kustom store shoppable by AI agents?

Two layers: rich, machine-readable product data (so the agent understands the catalog) and an agent interface (an MCP endpoint + discovery) that creates a Kustom payment session and hands it to the human to approve. Store Operators builds both on top of the store.

The customer's own AI agent (ChatGPT / Claude) discovers the store from its own data (/.well-known/mcp.json), connects to the MCP endpoint and transacts through its tools — picks Kustom as the payment method, and the human approves it with strong authentication (PSD2/SCA).

The same build works on any platform with an open commerce API (WooCommerce piloted; BigCommerce, Wix, Magento, PrestaShop, commercetools and more), with payment through the store's own provider (Kustom, Klarna, Stripe, Paytrail, Visma Pay and others). The agent is only as good as the data layer it stands on.
